About
Lasselle Sports Park is a roughly 13-acre city sports complex on the west side of Lasselle Street, just south of Krameria Avenue — the first new Moreno Valley city park opened in five years (dedicated September 27, 2014) and the city's first park purpose-built for tackle football. The complex centers on three regulation-size natural-turf football fields equipped with field lighting, LED scoreboards, and protective netting along Lasselle Street and the adjacent Perris Valley storm drain. The fields are circled by a decomposed-granite path used as a walking/running loop (≈0.4 miles), with outdoor fitness equipment and barbecue grills distributed around the grounds. The park was promised in 1990 as part of the Moreno Valley Ranch housing subdivision; after three successive developers went bankrupt, the city's bonding company built the $6.5 million park at no cost. Construction began in September 2012 and was extended because a state aqueduct pipeline runs below the site. Moreno Valley Pop Warner Football and Cheer was the first league to play there, followed by Moreno Valley Junior All American Football (the Falcons), NFL FLAG football (Mon/Wed practices, Friday night games), and the City's own Parks & Community Services Flag Football league. A 2,000-square-foot building houses two restrooms, storage, and a concession stand/snack bar with food-prep space. For families, the park has two age-segregated playgrounds (ages 2-5 and 5-12, with a 12-foot climbing structure), picnic shelters, barbecue grills, and a 200-space parking lot. The site is also used as a summer free-meal distribution point for children through the City's youth programs.
